Title: Glow Sticks

Introduction: I wasn't sure what i wanted to do for this project originally, so i searched online "science project ideas." When i was directed to a page about a glow stick experiment, i thought it would be a neat project to do, and i don't think anybody has ever tested it before. Because nobody had done this project before, i had to figure out how i was to test it. I think my results came out very nicely.

I. Hypothesis: i predict that the yellow glow stick will glow for the longest in the cold temperature. I think this because I read that cold temperatures make the glow stick glow for longer, although the color is duller. I think yellow will glow for the longest because it is one on the brightest colors out of: green, blue, pink, orange, and yellow.

II. Materials and Methods: I bought some very simple glow sticks, and then put them in different temperatures. The room temperature was just the temperature in the science room at school. I got the "cool" temperature of 32 degrees by filling a cooler with ice and cold water, and i got the warm water by simply heating up some water, and putting it in an insulated container.

III. Results: As it turns out, my prediction was wrong. The coldest temperature did result in the longest time glowed for, but the green glow stick lasted longer then the yellow glow stick.

IV. Conclusion: My prediction was half right. I guessed the coldest temperature would make the glow sticks glow for the longest, and I was right about that. But the green glow stick glowed for the longest. It too, was a very bright color. I think the brightness of the color did affect how long the glow stick glowed for because the blue slow stick (which was also the dullest color,) usually died out the fastest. I think my work is valid, and the experiment is successful.

V. Explanation: The coldest temperature makes the glow sticks glow for the longest because the colors are not as bright, and the brightest colors lasted the longest because of their bright color. So i would recommend if you want to store a glow stick somewhere for the night, I would recommend the freezer.
